History
On November 23, 2015, Captain Todd Sanford and SAFD personnel responded to a house fire on Baylor Street in San Angelo where Captain Sanford climbed into the attic space of the house to ensure the blaze was extinguished.  Without warning, the ceiling collapsed beneath his feet, causing Captain Sanford to plunge over 8 feet to the floor landing on his head.  Upon reaching Captain Sanford, the responding firefighters put their paramedic skills to action and transported the temporarily paralyzed unresponsive Sanford to a local hospital.  Later, healthcare professionals at the hospital confirmed that Captain Sanford had broken his neck and that the firefighters on scene saved his life by correctly and quickly transporting him to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and has since made a full recovery.  Since becoming the Operations Chief, Chief Sanford knows how important it is to take care of his personnel and keep them safe.  With over 26 years of service himself, he knows well the daily sacrifices the San Angelo Firefighters make to serve the great citizens of San Angelo.  Not only do firefighters miss important life events due to the 24-hour shift schedule, such as their children's birthdays, Christmas, school events and countless other activities, these unselfish men and women witness countless occurrences of tragedy that no person should ever experience.  Chief Sanford knows the importance of saying "thank you for a job well done" and he wants to make sure that every person employed by the San Angelo Fire Department has the training, equipment, and appreciation they deserve; along with your support, the Foundation will help make that a reality.
